Over 19,934 girls between the age of 10 and 19, gave birth in Gauteng in the last 12 months

According to report that has raised alarms and concern in Gauteng, there has been more than 23,000 teenage pregnancy in the 12 months period from April 2020 to March 2021.

From the accumulated data, 934 babies were delivered by girls between the ages of 10 and 14, 19,000 were delivered by those between the ages of 15- and 19-years-old while nearly 3,000 girls between the ages of 10 and 19 chose to terminate their pregnancies.

The stats have called for serious introspection in the Gauteng departments of Social Development, Education and Health.

DA says there is a need for intensifying campaigns to prevent teenage pregnancy.
