SAHPRA has approved an antiretroviral treatment for infants and children with HIV.
The Health Products Regulatory Authority says the remedy comes in granules that can be sprinkled on soft food or dissolved in milk or water.
The treatment does not require refrigeration.
It was developed by the non-profit organisation Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative and Cipla Pharmaceuticals.
SAHPRA says the new treatment marks a breakthrough in the fight against HIV.
